What is Hospice?
Hospice is a special way of caring for terminally ill people that
helps them live their final days to the fullest, as free as possible
from disabling pain and mental anguish, and in the setting of their
own homes (or a home-like care facility). Hospice is appropriate
when curative treatments are no longer effective. It is a comprehensive
program of interdisciplinary services, including bereavement counseling,
designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with a life-limiting
illness, and the needs of their families.
The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Washington, in
cooperation with hospices serving the Washington metropolitan area,
offer the following listing of providers as a resource to families
anticipating the death of a loved one as a result of terminal illness.
When calling with regard to beginning the process of hospice care,
please ask for the admissions director of the hospice.
